If water — submerged ecosystems, pools, rain, the fluid register is the wet substance Colin reaches for and
sun / sunpower / sunkissed is the warm power source, then weather/storm/sky is
what happens between them — the air column, the things that fall out
of it, the things it does to the body. Rain is water; sun is sun; weather
is the sky-and-its-events register: clouds, storms, thunder, lightning,
snow, ice, wind, the cold, and — by extension — night-as-atmospheric-state.
About 22 named files across the catalog use this vocabulary, with the
earliest archive release itself a weather title (the 2007 freak medicine
winter 07
) and the last named Killd By era B-side carrying a weather
disaster word (tsunami, B-SIDES2017).

This motif sits in deliberate negative space against water — submerged ecosystems, pools, rain, the fluid register and
sun / sunpower / sunkissed: where there’s overlap (rain, sunlight) those tracks are
also on those other pages. Weather’s distinctive register is
precipitation and atmosphere as event — the storm that happens, the
thunder that comes, the snow you slip on, the lightning you have sex
with
. The other key adjacency is to machine / robot / cyber — the mechanized register, which the
machine-robot page explicitly flagged as a clean negative-evidence
reference: chrome hallways and cyberslums are reliably interior; weather
is reliably exterior. The two motifs almost never share a track.

Four subregisters across the arc

1. Storm cluster: thunder + lightning (across both eras)

The motif’s strongest single thread, and the one that runs cleanly from
alphabets through Killd By:

  • JULY2010/06 all thunder stormy.mp3 — descriptive weather title in the
    album-a-month series.
  • 2011 [_]/storms.mp3 and 2011 [_]/thunder come.mp3 — the loose 2011
bin has two storm-axis singles back-to-back; thunder come is
imperatival, naming weather as something to be summoned.
  • SUNPOWER3/02 thunder bus.mp3 — animal-coinage shape applied to
weather: thunder bus is the same coinage pattern as robo whale or
jeanjets (X-of-Y compression). Inside a SUNPOWER release, no less —
one of the rare same-album sun + storm collisions.
  • KB/killd by/Court Clothes/06 thunder__stoned_ (released as Court
Clothes track 6, with three working-draft files in 40 CCdrafts/
including thunder stone 1.aif, thunder stone'dxxx.aif, and
Court Clothes/thunder stone1.aif). The title is the era-shift in a
    single word:
the storm has stopped happening to a landscape and
started happening to the speaker — thunder-stoned reads as
    intoxication-by-storm, weather as embodied state.
  • KB/killd by/Recovery/12 sex with lightning.m4a (released; with
multiple draft files Recovery x/sex with lightningxxx.aif.asd,
    RcvryDrafts/sex with lightning.aif, SLOW/sexlightning slowd.mp3,
    and a music video Videos/2015/50 Colin music video/5 4Youtube videos/sexwithlightning.mov). Same operation as thunder-stoned
weather is now what the speaker has sex with. Embodied, erotic,
    extreme.
  • KB/killd by/169 REcovery Drafts/drafts1/lightning2.aif — earlier
draft, suggesting the lightning vocabulary was worked over multiple
sessions before settling on sex with lightning.

2. Cloud + sky cluster (alphabets-era only)

Disappears almost completely in Killd By — clouds are an alphabets-era
shape:

  • 07_08 [_]/Rainclouds(icanfeelthem,youaretheuniverse).m4a — the
earliest archive cloud title and one of the most striking parenthetical
subtitles in the catalog: the rainclouds are felt and they are the
    universe
. This is the cloud-as-cosmic-body operation, cross-link to
stars / ghosts / aliens / cosmic-spiritual and body — Bliss Body, body-coinages, the body as ecosystem.
  • 09 [_]/maybreeds of pegasus cloud giants.m4a — clouds are pegasus
    giants
; cross-link to animal coinages — absurdist creature collisions (cloud + winged horse +
giant is the same X-of-Y stacking as robo elephant or bieber jerboa).
  • JUNE_MONSTERS_09/02 glitter monsters open clouds up.m4a — the cloud
is acted on by a monster; cross-link to animal coinages — absurdist creature collisions op
    on monster-coinages.
  • may10/cloudy.mp3 — the cloud-as-mood compressed to its plainest
    adjectival form.
  • KB/M_Killd By/M_killdby15:16:17/15:16/pinksky _headband.aif.asd
the lone Killd By-era sky title, and it’s a working file only (the
.asd suggests it was never finished). Note the typography: underscore
before headband in Killd By’s prose-style; pink sky as a coinage
attached to a piece of clothing (headband) rather than to a landscape.
Even this exception sits in the era-shift direction: the sky has
    collapsed onto a body part.

The disappearance is itself the finding. Alphabets clouds are
ecosystems hosting monsters and pegasus giants; by Killd By the only sky
title is an unfinished .asd of a coinage stuck on someone’s head.

3. Snow + ice + winter (alphabets-heavy; ice migrates to Killd By body register)

The cold subregister, dense in alphabets-era and selectively re-used in
Killd By:

  • alphabets/freak medicine winter 07/the earliest known release
    folder in the entire archive
(2007) has winter in its name. Including
06 (old and boring days, made on a snowy day).m4a — weather
    literally as compositional context.
  • NOV09/13 snow slipping.mp3 — descriptive snow as a noun-of-action.
  • CAVE RAVE/01 running with snowshoes.mp3 — track-1 of the namesake
alphabets album opens with snowshoe imagery; weather as locomotion.
  • JANFEB11 PIRATE LIFE/09 slowbook snowsnail.mp3 — reduplication
(snow-snail) plus the slowbook prefix; the snow gets internalized
    into pace.
  • Videos/2008/YOUTUBE/snow time and Videos/2009/CRFW_TUDALOOS_2008- 2009_Video Rips/CRFW_2009_snow time.mp4 — the snow time video
recurs as both a 2008 YouTube cut and a 2009 Tudaloos rip. This is
    Colin’s earliest video-anchored weather title.
  • alphabets/THRU THA RIP/08 snow habit (released, has track entry
SNOW HABIT) — snow habit is
Colin’s most-Killd-By-shaped alphabets weather coinage: habit (as in
routine, addiction, vestment) attached to snow makes weather a way of
life. Three working stems exist (195 STEMS/snow habit perc.m4a,
synth 2.m4a, scepter.m4a) so it was iteratively built.
  • SIBERIAN CHILL/07 ice castle (released, has track entry
    ice castle) — entire release
title is a cold-weather coinage; ice castle sits alongside thunder
    stone
    as a weather-as-architecture move that the cyberslum/chrome
hallway operation later inverts (interior architecture made of weather
→ interior architecture made against weather).
  • alphabets/11_/ice floor one.mp3 and alphabets/2011 [_]/ice floor bite through.mp3ice floor as a recurring two-word setting;
cross-link to dance / rave / groove — the floor as a song-engine (floor) and weather.
  • KB/M_Killd By/.../bloodsweat&ice robovoicesamps.aif — ice migrates
to Killd By, but as part of the bloodsweat&ice bodily-fluid title
on Recovery. Weather has been absorbed into body — Bliss Body, body-coinages, the body as ecosystem’s fluid
register (cf. Session 14’s documentation of body × sweat × cold). This
is the clearest evidence of the era-shift for this motif: cold-as-
weather (alphabets) becomes cold-as-bodily-state (Killd By).

4. Disaster + extreme weather (Killd By-era endpoint)

A small but tonally distinctive cluster:

  • KB/killd by/B-SIDES2017/tsunami.aif — the only natural-disaster word
in the catalog, and it appears in the latest known Killd By session
folder. Tsunami is also weather-as-water-disaster, cross-link to
water — submerged ecosystems, pools, rain, the fluid register (the rain HuLa / SWIM family) where it’s already
noted. The fact that Killd By’s last named weather title is a
catastrophe rather than a descriptive cloud is consistent with this
    motif’s era-shift direction.
  • Sex with lightning (above) also belongs here — weather-as-extreme-
    state.
  • Thunder stoned (above) — weather-as-altered-state.

5. Boundary: night-as-atmospheric-state

A small adjacent cluster — night is not strictly weather, but it
behaves like weather (an enveloping atmospheric condition; cross-references
deep night, night world, night explodes, nighttime cage howls):

  • 07_08/donna hayward (thats the life tonight).m4a
  • NW wierd summer 08/night world.mp3
  • M_A_Y_09[DONTTAKEITSERIOUS,IMALITTLEKID]/11 maybe bigfoot sings love songs in the deep night.m4a
  • sep09/05 night explodes.mp3 — verbing night as if it were a storm.
  • DEC09SCIFI/04 robodogs nighttime cage howls.mp3 — already on
machine / robot / cyber — the mechanized register and howl / lust howls; night is the time-axis
    setting of the robo-creatures.
  • KB/killd by/_nightclub_/nt.nightclub1.aif and the Neotropical
    nightclubslowmotion.aif — night-as-venue rather than night-as-
weather. The Killd By era’s night word migrates from atmospheric to
social setting, parallel to the dance/rave/groove motif’s floor.

This is a soft cluster; the night vocabulary mostly serves other motifs.
Flagged here so future passes know it was considered.

The 4th instance of the alphabets → Killd By era-shift

Three prior motifs have documented the same era-shift, each in its own
vocabulary:

Weather is the 4th instance and follows the same direction. The
alphabets-era weather vocabulary is descriptive and exterior — weather
happens around the song, providing a setting that often hosts monsters
or animals (pegasus cloud giants, glitter monsters open clouds up,
robo goats howl and bang inside the Fantazia 2010 storms). The
Killd By-era weather vocabulary is embodied and interior — weather
happens to the speaker as a personal state (thunder-stoned, sex with
lightning
, bloodsweat&ice) or as a disaster framing the speaker has to
survive (tsunami). The arc bends in the same direction the other three
motifs do: exterior register → interior register; descriptive frame →
embodied state.

With four motifs now showing the same operation in the same period,
this should be promoted from per-motif observation to documented
operation.
See _Documentation/COLIN_OPERATIONS.md (written this
session as the natural landing page).

Cross-motif overlaps

  • weather × water: rain HuLa, get all rainy, lifted all rainy
    weedy
, Rainclouds, tsunami — rain is on both pages; the water page
treats rain as time-marker and as fluid; this page treats rain-clouds
    and storms as atmospheric events.
  • weather × sun: thunder bus sits on SUNPOWER3, sunlight monsters
    summer hello
opens BESTUV09 / JUNE_MONSTERS_09; the two motifs share
the sky region of the catalog.
  • weather × body: thunder-stoned, sex with lightning,
bloodsweat&ice — the era-shift endpoint of this motif is exactly the
bodily-fluid register that body — Bliss Body, body-coinages, the body as ecosystem documents.
  • weather × animal-coinage: thunder bus, snow snail, pegasus
    cloud giants
, snow habit (animal-of-habit), ice cream eagle
    (underwaters), triceratops nightmares (@PRILOSAURUS09). Weather
combines productively with animal-coinage on the X-of-Y compression
    pattern.
  • weather × machine-robot: almost zero overlap, exactly as the
machine-robot page predicted. The chrome-hallway and cyberslum
settings are interior and metallic; weather is exterior and
atmospheric. The lone meeting point is bloodsweat&ice robovoicesamps, which is more a body-fluid title than a weather title.
This page’s near-emptiness of machine-robot is itself the cleanest
evidence the two motifs are structurally complementary.
  • weather × dance-rave-groove: ice floor (alphabets), snow
    habit
(alphabets). The floor under the dancing body can be made of
    weather.
  • weather × cosmic-ghost: Rainclouds (icanfeelthem, you are the
    universe)
    — clouds as cosmic body; pegasus cloud giants — clouds
as mythical beasts. Alphabets weather opens onto cosmology in a way
    Killd By weather doesn’t.
  • weather × howl: robo goats howl and bang (fantazia storms),
robodogs nighttime cage howls (DEC09SCIFI). The howl happens
    inside the weather.

The freak medicine winter 07 anchor

Worth naming explicitly: the earliest known release in the entire
archive
has winter in its title. Weather is therefore the first
named register
in Colin’s vocabulary — before sun, before water,
before dance, before machine. Freak medicine winter 07 (per
freak medicine winter 07) is also the release that
gives the weather page its earliest dated coinage: (old and boring days,
made on a snowy day)
. The motif begins as compositional context — the
weather of the day the song was made — and only later detaches into
title-level imagery.

This origin pattern is rare. water — submerged ecosystems, pools, rain, the fluid register opens with first otter
water
(2007/2008) as a title; howl / lust howls opens with lust howls
(2007) as a phrase; weather opens as a production context that becomes
a title vocabulary by 2009.

Notes for future passes

  • jet mantis rain spray lyric file. Pending READ — Session
    18, 2026-05-12.
The RTF file dates from 2013-09-11 (alphabets/Killd
By transition era), is 368 bytes long, and contains a single fragment
line: “rain spray, bringin on jets, bringin on hurt LG white marbles”.
    Three findings: (a) Not a full lyric — this is a notes-file
fragment, a coined phrase set aside for possible later use rather than
a finished song; (b) Three-motif title collision — the filename
jet mantis rain spray packs machine-robot (jet) + animal-coinage
(mantis) + weather (rain spray) into four words. Three-motif collisions
in a single title are rare; this one’s existence strengthens the
motifs-as-co-located-registers thesis flagged on body — Bliss Body, body-coinages, the body as ecosystem; (c)
Reduplication-light evidence“bringin on jets, bringin on hurt”
uses the same doubled-utterance pattern documented as Operation 2 on
COLIN_OPERATIONS. The fragment is small enough to
not require its own track entry, but the multi-motif title is worth a
pointer-link from both animal coinages — absurdist creature collisions (mantis) and
machine / robot / cyber — the mechanized register (jet) in a future cleanup pass — currently
only this page (weather) references it.
  • bloodsweat&ice track-level entry (carry-forward from Session 16).
Still pending. The track is now triply motif-anchored (body, sweat,
    weather) which strengthens the case.
  • Sub-motif breakout candidates: the snow / ice / winter cluster
could split out as motifs/cold if the website wants finer
navigation. Currently held together as the weather page’s middle
    subregister. Not urgent.
  • Retro-fit overlap notes onto sun / sunpower / sunkissed and water — submerged ecosystems, pools, rain, the fluid register.
This page references both heavily and explicitly carves negative
space; the older pages don’t yet point back. A cleanup pass would
bring them into line with the post-Session-13 cross-motif convention.
    Still not urgent.
  • storms.mp3 + thunder come.mp3 audibility check. Both are
archive-only loose 2011 singles with no released form. If they turn
    out to be track-level entities (1+ minute, named-by-Colin) they’d
warrant entries in the loose-2011 fragmentary container.
