Project: alphabets
Released: 2009-12-30
Label: self-released
Bandcamp: https://alphabets.bandcamp.com/album/remix09

First annual alphabets remix collection. Colin remixing 10 Denver-scene peers. Released December 30, 2009 on Bandcamp. Followed by REMIX10 (December 2010).

REMIX09 establishes that Colin was a scene peer and active remixer as early as 2009. Notable: Pictureplane (Travis Egedy) appears as track 9 — confirming their connection three years before the 2012 Westword interview and nine years before Egedy’s 2018 tribute. Snake Feathers (SNAKEFEATHERS) was one of Colin’s own projects; him remixing himself on REMIX09 demonstrates his multi-project identity. Hideous Men was Ryan McRyhew’s pre-Thug Entrancer duo with Kristi Schaefer — farewell show was at Rhinoceropolis in June 2010.

Scene Context

Every artist remixed was a Denver peer. Several connections:

  • HIDEOUS MEN = Ryan McRyhew (later Thug Entrancer) + Kristi Schaefer. Named after David Foster Wallace’s “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men.” Formed September 2009; farewell show at Rhinoceropolis June 2010. Colin remixed them just 3 months after the band formed.
  • PICTUREPLANE = Travis Egedy. Colin remixed Egedy in 2009; Egedy released a tribute track “Color Spectrum (Tokyo Drift)” in 2018 after Colin’s death.
  • SNAKEFEATHERS = one of Colin’s own early projects (per EverybodyWiki). Self-remix.
  • BDRMPPL = also appeared on alphabets’ split tape (2012). Early scene peer.
  • THUNDERCADE and MODERN WITCH = also appear in REMIX10 (December 2010), confirming ongoing remix relationships.
