Reading
Where the sun motif is bright/social and the howl motif is
nocturnal/dream-coded, sweat is the rave/dance register made bodily —
heat from movement and crowd. The “BEE” coinage adds a buzz/swarm
character; the “SWEAT BEE: DANCE MIX” framing makes the dance-floor
context explicit. Closely related to Colin’s broader rave/dance-floor
vocabulary, which connects to Fantasia (the Rhinoceropolis festival
he co-curated) and CAVE RAVE (the 2014 album).
The roman-numeraled SWEATBEE tracks (i–v) suggest Colin sometimes treated
the motif formally — these aren’t “sweatbee 1, 2, 3” but a discrete
five-piece work.
