Project: alphabets
Released: 2010–2013 (mixed)
Label: self-released
Loose “unreleased” container — not a coherent release, but a late-career
folder-of-loose-ends that Colin himself appears to have curated. The two
tracks span October 2010 (peak BIEBER JERBOA / CAVE RAVE-adjacent era) and
February 2013 (near the tail of the Alphabets cadence), so this is not a
session remnant — it’s a bin of keep-worthy orphans from across the
Alphabets run.
Confirmed tracks (from archive filenames)
- bip bop.mp3 (mtime 2010-10-30, 5.09 MB)
- lust howls.mp3 (mtime 2013-02-19, 8.10 MB; .asd sidecar 2015-09-15)
Notes
The .asd sidecar on lust howls.mp3 means Colin had that track loaded in
Ableton as late as September 2015 — possibly reworking it, possibly just
auditioning it.
lust howls is a recurring motif, not a one-off (found 2026-04-24).
A filename sweep of _Documentation/Music/alphabets/ for the phrase
turned up multiple sibling tracks across the alphabets era:
07_08 [_]/lust howls in the afternoon.mp3(2007–2008)07_08 [_]/lust howls and calls for mating like locusts do.m4a(2007–2008)09 [_]/lust calls and sex dance.m4a(related “lust calls” variant, 2009)unreleased/lust howls.mp3(this entry, 2013)
The 2013 track is the latest in a 5-year arc. A broader “howl” theme also
runs through the catalog — “robo goats howl and bang” (fantazia2010),
“plesiosaur howl outs and swim bump” (BESTUV09 + sep09), “robodogs nighttime
cage howls” (DEC09SCIFI). For website purposes, this is a candidate
“motif/series” page rather than treating any one track in isolation.
The container naming (plain unreleased) distinguishes this from all the
period-specific “unreleased X” folders — unreleased fall 08,
unreleased_dec08 patterns, etc. Those are per-session; this is a curated
overflow.
