The first “octobrr” — the spelling with double R that Colin would repeat in OCTOBRR2010, marking October as a recurring touchstone. The extra R in “brr” makes it cold, onomatopoetic, seasonal. October with a shiver built into its name.

11 tracks in the warmer-cooler register of autumn. The titles shift slightly from the pure animal vocabulary of sep09 toward more emotional/sensory terrain: bouncy places, dreamy new people, giggle places, talkless places, band aids heal places. “Places” recurs four times — a spatial vocabulary of feeling. heart throb blast ups and romantipunk establish a strand of romance-adjacent language (compare romantidrunk in SUNPOWER and romantibunk in OCTOBRR2010).

sftwre synths float tense is the most self-referential title — “software synths” written in the compressed abbreviated style that would later name the December companion release SFTWRSYNTHZdec09. frost paws pause closes the album: the season arriving.

Archive Notes

  • “octobrr” spelling: double-R appears again in OCTOBRR2010; a deliberate seasonal orthography
  • “places” as a recurring noun: bouncy places, giggle places, talkless places, band aids heal places — four tracks using the same word, creating a loose suite within the album
  • romantipunk echoes forward to romantidrunk (SUNPOWER) and romantibunk (OCTOBRR2010) — a recurring portmanteau family
