The first of two December 2009 releases — the month Colin released the most music in the album-a-month project. DEC09SCIFI is a sci-fi concept album: robots, hover jets, science fiction cinema, space-age technology. The naming convention is closer to the monster-themed June album than the free-associative earlier months.
“luke lifewalker” (track 07) is a direct Star Wars reference — Luke Skywalker renamed as “lifewalker,” shifting the suffix from celestial to biological. A small pun with a large register.
“palace parade fevers forever” (track 02) is a sentence of sustained alliteration and escalation. “robodogs nighttime cage howls” (track 04) — robotic dogs, howling in cages at night, is a surprisingly dark image in an otherwise upbeat catalog. “speed up hoverjet w radio on” (track 08) — the “with radio on” addition makes the sci-fi image intimate, domestic: a hovercraft as a commute.
Track 02 in the archive has two files — “adoorabellz” and “palace parade fevers forever” — sharing the same number, suggesting a version or replacement.
