Saturday, July 9, 2016, 9 p.m. at Rhinoceropolis (3553 Brighton Boulevard). A dance-music + installation-art event whose proceeds went toward making Fantasia 2016 happen.
Concept: a cave installation “loosely based off of the cave rave scene from The Matrix Reloaded” per organizer David Winkler (Julien). “We are going to make Rhino this moist cave complete with stalactites, moss floors, and art pieces in the front room from Colin Ward and other artists who will be a part of [Fantasia].”
Theme (co-organizer Ike Clateman): “Esoteric dreams and hippie scenes. Sink your toes into the earth and dance your unwiped ass off. We will become natural again. Cave Rave is a soul [cleansing] dance party. Come if naked and ready.”

Why this entry exists
The Cave Rave / Fantasia relationship had been mis-mapped in the vault until Session 19 (2026-05-13). Through Session 18 the vault held a press entry titled 2014-westword-cave-rave-fantasia-preview.md that treated the Cave Rave Westword piece as a Fantasia 2014 lead-up. That was wrong on three counts: (a) the article was published 2016-07-09, not 2014; (b) it previewed Fantasia 2016, not 2014; (c) Cave Rave was its own event with its own lineup and visual concept, not a “lead-up” reading of Fantasia.
This entry restores Cave Rave as a discrete event in the Fantasia 2016 production budget. The earlier press file has been re-slugged to press/2016-07-09-westword-cave-rave-fantasia-2016-preview.md.
Cave Rave the alphabets album
There is also an alphabets release titled CAVE RAVE (2013, archive folder _Documentation/Music/alphabets/CAVE RAVE/). The album title precedes the 2016 event by three years; the event borrows the title rather than the album debuting at the event.
